Egypt says no complaints over fruit, vegetable quality from Russia
CAIRO, Sep 14 (PRIME) -- Egypt has not received any complaints from Russia over the quality of fruit and vegetable supplies, Egyptian newspaper Ash-Shuruk reported late Tuesday citing Ibrahim Imbabi, head of the quarantine office at Egypt’s agriculture ministry.
Egypt exports around 320,000 tonnes of citrus fruits and 200,000 tonnes of potatoes, as well as onion and pomegranates to Russia, Imbabi said.
“So far no complaints over the quality of supplied products have been submitted by Russia,” he said.
Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight said earlier on Tuesday it could temporarily ban imports of products of high phytosanitary risk from Egypt.
“In order to prevent the introduction and spread of quarantine items on the territory of the Russian Federation… The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight deserves a right to introduce temporary restrictions on imports of products of high phytosanitary risk from Egypt to Russia,” the statement said.
